I was wondering if you could help me with my mac; I can’t seem to find anyone else to ask. This may sound weird, but it’s like this.
My dad and my brother got me this macbook pro about 2 months ago. They got someone to set it up for me (eg. install the OS, connect it to the wi-fi at home), so when I got it, it was all ready to go.
The thing is, it keeps asking me for the user password — without it i am unable to use the dvd player, update the iTunes, update the safari and so on. I am also unable to log out, and I’m terrified that one fine day, it will log out accidentally and I will be unable to log back in because I don’t know the password.
Neither my dad, my brother or the guy who set it up seems to know what the password is (ludicrous?), and they all swear to me they did not put any password. That sounds wrong to me because it seems to me they would be unable to set anything up on this mac without setting at least one password. The guy who set this mac up swears to me that the only password he put here is the the one for the wi-fi.
I tried changing the password (in order to set one) but (naturally) it keeps asking me for the old password, which, as i’ve said, nobody here seems to know.
So my question is, is there any way at all for me to put a password on this mac without the *old* one that no one seems to know? I don’t suppose there is a way, but, it can’t hurt to ask. A friend of mine says to take this to a mac shop and let them handle it, but i’ll do that as a last resort (especially since I’ve got a lot of deadlines now).
Thank you so much for your time and I hope someone will be able to help me out.
